About Our NE Calgary Teeth Whitening Treatment

At Monterey Dental Centre, we know that your smile is important! We know it is one of the first things that people notice when they first meet you. A bright and white smile looks healthy and youthful, and yet, according to an American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry national survey, 50% of the people surveyed were not satisfied with the appearance of their smile.

As a NE Calgary Dentist, we are pleased to offer our patients several options to whiten their smiles.

For whitening, we offer:

  • In-House Whitening (Philips Zoom)
  • Customized Whitening Trays with whitening tubes
  • Crest Whitestrips Supreme

In Office Teeth Whitening:

Zoom in-office tooth whitening, is a procedure designed to lighten your teeth using a combination of hydrogen peroxide gel and a specially designed visible LED light lamp. The Zoom treatment involves using the gel and lamp in conjunction with each other to produce maximum whitening results in the shortest time possible. During the procedure, the whitening gel will be applied to your teeth and your teeth will be exposed to the light from the Zoom lamp for a series of 15-minute sessions. During the entire treatment, a plastic retractor will be placed in your mouth to help keep it open and the soft tissues of your mouth (i.e. lips, gums, cheeks, and tongue) will be covered to ensure they are not exposed to either the gel or light.

Customized Whitening Trays

A scan is taken of your teeth and this scan is sent to a lab to fabricate trays specifically for your mouth. The trays and whitening tubes are sent by FedEx to your home approximately 5 to 7 business days after your initial scan.

Crest Whitestrips Supreme

These strips contain 14% hydrogen peroxide and are sold in either a 21-pack or 42-pack. They can be worn twice a day for 30 minutes.

Why Get Teeth Whitening at a Dental Office?

Teeth whitening has seen a meteoric rise in popularity over the last several years. Although there are various methods, such as over-the-counter products and professional teeth whitening at a dental office, it remains the most effective and secure way to whiten your teeth. In this article, we’ll outline the process, advantages, and historical background of teeth whitening at a dental office.

Before beginning the teeth whitening procedure, a dental hygienist will first inspect your teeth to guarantee they are in good health for the procedure. This examination includes taking an x-ray of your teeth to check for any underlying dental issues.

Once a dental hygienist has verified your teeth are healthy, they will begin the teeth whitening process. This usually includes:

  1. Cleaning: Before the whitening process can begin, a dental hygienist will thoroughly clean your teeth to eliminate any plaque, debris, or tartar buildup. This step is essential in order to guarantee that the teeth whitening process has maximum impact.
  2. Whitening Gel: After the dental hygienist applies the whitening gel, they will break down stain molecules on your teeth with hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide solution for a brighter and whiter smile.
  3. Light Activation: To maximize the effects of whitening gel, a specialized light source may be applied to your teeth. This helps accelerate the chemical reaction within the gel, thus expediting its overall effectiveness.
  4. Rinse and repeat: Depending on how discolored your teeth are, you may need to repeat the whitening process multiple times in order to see results. Each repetition should be done over several weeks in order to protect tooth enamel between each session.

The Benefits of Teeth Whitening at our NE Calgary Dental Office

  • Safe procedure: Teeth whitening at a dental office is both safe and effective. Unlike over-the-counter products that could damage your teeth if not used correctly, dental professionals use specialized tools and techniques to guarantee the process is both secure and successful.
  • Longer-lasting effects: Professional teeth whitening offers better and longer-lasting results than over-the-counter products, such as toothpaste or mouthwash that claim to whiten teeth only remove surface stains without changing their hue.
  • Customized Solutions: In a dental office, each teeth whitening procedure is tailored to meet the individual’s needs. Dental professionals take into account your sensitivity level and the current color of your teeth in order to provide a safe and efficient tooth-whitening solution.
  • Increased Confidence: Having a bright, white smile can give you immense self-assurance and boost your social game in social situations. Teeth whitening improves the look of your teeth and thus, improves self-esteem and self-assurance levels.
  • Improved oral hygiene: Teeth whitening can motivate patients to practice good oral hygiene habits. As this process is costly, patients are more likely to commit to maintaining good habits in order to avoid needing further treatments for teeth whitening.
